Company History

ICAP Industria Chimica Spa, founded in 1945, initially dedicated its activities to the production of pigments, binders and auxiliaries for leather finishing in its factory at Parabiago (Milan).

In 1951 the Company extended its production to include pigment printing of textile with ACRILEM and IREOS pigments and traditional textile auxiliaries.

In 1961, ten years later the first acrylic binders was produced. This is a turning-point that will determinate the future of the Company, defining it as a producer of acrylic, styrene and vynil-versatic homopolymers and copolymers. This target was reached with a constant work in research and innovative capacities, adapted to pace and to the most diverse requirements.

Afterwards, new polymers were defined and ICAP entered new sectors, such as wadding, non wovens, flock, paper lamination, paper and wall coating and PSA.

In 1972 SIRA (Società Italiana Resine Acriliche) in Barberino di Mugello (Florence) is bought. This gave the Company the opportunity to expand and today 75% of production is carried out in this factory: Production Unit 2.

That brings us to 1975, when the first polyurethane is produced.

In 1981, PROMETAL (Polymers) and in 1987 DI.PI.A. (Pigments) were acquired.

In 1989 an interest of 19.5% is transferred to DOW CHEMICAL, a quota that is entirely re-acquired in 1994.

During the same year, ICAP obtains the Quality Certificate UNI EN ISO 9002 and the leather branch of its activity is sold to another Company.

In 1995, after a merge, the current name of ICAP-SIRA Chemicals and Polymers S.p.A. was taken and in 1997, it acquired a 50% now increased up to 74%, interest in ALBA MILAGRO, which produces water soluble fertilizers for intensive farming, with a significant presence in foreign markets as well.

In 2003 ICAP-SIRA S.p.A. acquired the worldwide PSA activities of the Stahl group. The acquisition also includes the 15.000 Ton/Y capacity former Stahl Italia Spa polymerization plan in San Mauro Torinese (Turin).

Today ICAP-SIRA Chemicals and Polymers S.p.A. is a future-oriented Company which invests over 5% of its turnover each year in new productive, structural and technological resources.
