A technical team operates in the company, responsible for controlling, studying and improving the complex interactions between the production cycle, work environment and outdoor environment. Operators in this sector perform their activity in the ecology, occupational hygiene, safety and fire prevention sectors.
Soil protection, surface and ground water pollution control, control of atmospheric emissions are key factors in the relationship between industrial plants and the environment.
In order to ensure an ever greater respect for the environment and ecology, new plants of the latest generation have been designed and installed in Production Unit 2 of ICAP-SIRA SpA. They consist of a combustor (photo above) which reduces all atmospheric emissions caused by the various production processes into pure and harmless steam.
Responsibility for the Environmental and Safety Policy of the factories lies with the Technical and Production Manager, supported by the Technical Departments, Environmental, Safety & Health Management and the Factory Managements. Investments in ecology and safety play an important part in Company policy, geared towards continuous improvement in standards of safety and production technology. Above all, state-of-the-art plants are in operation for handling air-borne contaminants, based on the principles of wet scrubbing, adsorption with activated carbons and filtration with dust collectors of the self-cleaning bag house type.
The water treatment systems include plants for chemical-physical treatment and activated carbons for handling wastewaters and regular sludge disposal. All factory areas where work is performed in the open are water-proofed in order to avoid risk of contaminating the soil and subsoil. The water treatment systems are monitored for correct operation continuously 24 hours a day by analyzers for the more important parameters.
Healthy conditions of work environment are frequently checked thanks to well-planned environmental inspections and health assessments which, overall, ensure protection of the factory workers’ health.
Lastly great steps forward have been achieved over the last few years as regards the specific safety and risk prevention/protection sector. This is thanks to the constant desire to analyze and improve current work systems, combined with the experience gained by the personnel and the activity of the internal specialist team.
Emergency evacuation exercise conducted in Parabiago
Some in-house Emergency Squads were set up some years ago to provide fire prevention or to act in the case of fire or any other foreseeable accident. These operational units receive special training involving simulation of emergency control activities and extinguishing of deliberately created pockets of fire.
